Harry Potter, Renaissance Magic, and a Passion for Books with Dr. Janet Sorrentino

Friday, September 26 at 4:30 pm at the Bookplate on Cross Street

The world of Hogwarts, however full of magical powers and wonders, was immersed in books: the need for books, the love of books, and the power of books. J.K. Rowling drew on a culture of books and magic that would have been very familiar to scholars and savants in the Renaissance to create Harry Potter's world we have come to love in her books.

Dr. Sorrentino's lecture will highlight some of the Renaissance themes such as herbalogy, alchemy, and secret societies, with illustrations from surviving Renaissance texts.

This event is part of the Harry Potter Festival (September 26 – 27, 2014) - chestertownhpfest.org
